The Old Mill – reclaimed wood
Old Flour Mill and Barn made from reclaimed wood
When I first saw the white wood, it just reminded me of an old mill and so the idea was planted and my creativity took over. The old barn was added next and then I decided to create a corrugated roof by cutting lots of bamboo beads that I rescued from an old bamboo door curtain that fell apart (I knew those beads would come in handy one day! 🙂 ).
My husband found some broken perspex which had discoloured and proved to be perfect for the windows of the barn, wooden matchsticks were added to form a window frame. The hoist (non working) was made from some broken jewellery bits and the straw bale was attached. My husband created the miniature barrow, cute isn’t it? and I added the finishing touches such as hay on the floor and a very useful wood store on the side. Every barn has weeks growing up the sides so this barn needed some too. I think this would make a great manly gift especially for a farmer or maybe someone who has previously worked on a farm. Or it would equally look great popped on a shelf and would suit most home decor and would certainly be a talking piece.

I have enjoyed crafting for many years and love upcycling or recycling items saving them from landfill, and giving them a new purpose in life. In particular I use fabric from clothing items I have purchased from local charity shops, meaning the charities benefit as well.
The amount of plastic used in the retail industry also has me concerned. Things like fruit, veg etc. Most of which Mother Nature has provided with its own protective coat so whenever possible I choose plastic free from our local market place.
My packaging may not look very pretty but it will be either recycled or reused and where necessary will contain environmentally friendly bubble wrap (green coloured), please feel free to re use again.
